Governor Perry to sign the Windstorm Bill at the Ortiz Center, Tuesday, June 23, 2009.

Memo from our CEO:  Winstorm Bill Signing

A big THANK YOU to our local delegates:  Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa, Representatives Abel Herrero, Todd Hunter and Solomon Ortiz Jr.  Without their hard work and the support of many other local and coastal representatives we would not have been successful.

Both the Texas Senate and the Texas House of Representatives passed HB 4409 unanimously.

For a break down of what this means:

- All Coastal Counties

- Nueces County

- Property Owner: $500,00 Commercial Building

- Property Owner:  $150,000 House

Messages from Our Legislature:

- Rep Solomon Ortiz Jr.

- Rep Abel Herrero

BACKGROUND:

The legislature is considering a restructure of the Windstorm Insurance program in Texas.  Several bills have been introduced with various ideas.  Some good and some bad.  The Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce is monitoring all the proposals.  HB 911 and SB 14 are of grave concerns as of this writing.

The wrong law could stop development, make insurance extremely expensive, cause property values to drop, and cause taxes to go up.  If the wrong bill passes it could Kill the Texas Coast.
